The Legends of the Rocking Dutchman - episode 98
The jukebox of July 1948
Today I'll take you to a joint somewhere in a black neighborhood in a big city. It's been a hot day in mid-July of 1948 and we're thirsty for a beer and some good music. I got some nickels so I play from what's in that juke box and that's pretty much what was popular in that summer, all recorded in the year before as the '48 strike of the American Federation of Musicians is still in effect.
The juke box has a surprising amount of crooning ballads and sentimental pop songs, but today I do the selection, so you'll get hot Rhythm & Blues from me - als always.
