The Legends of the Rocking Dutchman - episode 37

Eighties re-issue albums

There's still a huge pile of eighties re-issue albums in my collection waiting to be catalogued and sorted out - a job I never seem to find time for. So just every now and then I browse around in that collection to find inspiration for a new show of the Legends of the Rocking Dutchman - and that stack of vinyl is always good for an episode full of great and varied music.

A lot of these albums are European issues - today I'll play from Swedish, Danish and British labels and fortunately the liner notes are all in English. And as for these notes, they often make clear that this is the first generation of albums on a new interest in roots music, and the editors often have great problems putting a good and well-documented story together. One fails to find out whether the real King Porter was or was not on the tracks of a King Porter album, another doing a weak attempt in pointing out that it's wrong to view blues and jazz as - as the text on the album calls it - a dichotomy.
