The Legends of the Rocking Dutchman - episode 259
Capitol Rhythm & Blues series
Today I play from the beginnings of the Capitol 70000 Rhythm & Blues series, that started in 1949, when Capitol, founded in '42, was quickly growing into a major record label. The series has some great Rhythm & Blues and a few that I wonder what they're doing on a series like this.
The series also has some of the best of T-Bone Walker, recorded for the Black & While label, and aquired by Capitol when B&W closed down. Capitol kept some of them, like his iconic "Stormy Monday" in print troughout the fifties. T-Bone had recorded for Capitol before, in fact he was among the first to sign for the fledgling label, but he never got in their studios again - he signed for Imperial and later for Atlantic.
