The Legends of the Rocking Dutchman - episode 243

Aladdin, 1950

It's been quite a while ago when I did a special on the Aladdin label. For today I'll get you some releases from the year 1950. Thas year brought the first of a long series of drinking songs of Amos Milburn, a succesful concept for him. Also the one real success of Calvin Boze, whose jump blues were heavily inspired by Louis Jordan.

The label brought the cream of the crop of the musicians that played the roof off the joints on Central Avenue in Los Angeles, the place to be these days. But today you'll also get an absolute veteran of the scene, and an obscure female singer who, much later, tried her luck in Country & Western.
