The Legends of the Rocking Dutchman - episode 163
Legends Mix
Today's mix of raging Rhythm & Blues and moody slow blues brings great music again. One of them is a recording of Open The Door Richard, a very popular song of 1947 that was based on a vaudeville comedy show from the thirties, on a man so drunk that he needs someone inside the house - Richard - to let him in. Jack McVea had put it on music and scored a great hit with it, and several cover versions followed. The renewed popularity of the sketch led to a huge copyright fight and the bizarre outcome of it was, that the credits went to people who had never been involved in either the music or the lyrics.
