The Legends of the Rocking Dutchman - episode 153

Brunswick releases, 1931

Today's show brings us to the year 1931 with releases of Brunswick's Race series, that ran in the 7000-numbers up to 1931 when it was discontinued. And that brings us both some very obscure blues artists and a few familiar names.

The playlist also has one jug band instrumental - bands that partially consist of homemade instruments including the jug that makes its music by blowing into it, where just like brass instruments, the lip tension changes the pitch. Jug bands musicians often came from vaudeville and medicine shows - the latter a phenomenon that's hard to believe that it existed into the twenties.
