The Legends of the Rocking Dutchman - episode 132
Legends Mix
Today's playlist brings us the showmanship of one of the hottest hepcats of the thirties - Cab Calloway.
His series of songs about Minnie the Moocher and her friend Smokey Joe were a great succes that also reached the white audience - quite an achievement with lyrics full of drugs and "jive language" - the African American slang of the thirties and forties. Calloway even published a list of hepcat language so everyone could understand what his songs were all about.
But also a wonderful twenties blues of the mysterious bluesman who called himself Freezone, and who just recorded one song for the Paramount label. And of course some great jump blues - an allsorts like you're used from me.
