The Legends of the Rocking Dutchman - episode 117
Decca releases, spring 1940
Today I continue where I left you some weeks ago with the Decca releases of their 7000 series in 1940. This set has a blues about the disaster in the Natchez club in Mississippi where hundreds of people died in a fire - the tribute record was recorded and released soon after it happened.
I also tell you about the head of the Race music department of Decca, J. Mayo Williams, and how he made Decca the major Rhythm & Blues label for both Chicago and New York, but failed in his own recording businesses, and how the star of Louis Jordan rose in a short time.
