Is this Florida's best kept secret?
'How did you end up in this part of Florida?' That was the first thing our realtor and now friend Carol Heausler asked us. Indeed - tourists are a rare phenomenon in the area and there are no signs in any of Florida's well-known highlights that direct you to Sebring.
Well how we got there is another story - we have family in the village. But just imagine - would it be a long search for a place that has the following characteristics?
- You're less than two hours driving away from most of Florida's touristical highlights. Whether it's Disney or one of the many other Orlando area attractions; either the Atlantic or the Gulf of Mexico beaches; the cities of Tampa, St. Petersburg, Fort Meyers; or the Everglades: you'll be there within two hours. Miami is somewhat further away but it's still within reach for a day trip.
- You're just a few miles away from a busy area with a choice of shops, malls and restaurants and virtually all stores and services the resident needs.
- You can enjoy the peace and silence around your home, with no traffic and neighbours that are far enough so they don't bother and close enough to become friends.
- Property is still affordable.
Well you know - we found the place.
'Is this America's best kept secret?', family asked me. Well I think it is. Especially because it's our place, it's the best on the planet. Four you it might be somewhere in the midwest plains, in an L.A. area beach town, a brownstone apartment in Manhattan or a cabin in the woods - we found it in Spring Lake Village.
If you ever get the chance to see our place and get a taste of the good life there, you'll understand. And if you don't, it's probably because people are different.
